Food crisis in Somalia
Almost 945,000 children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition, 185,000 of which are suffering from severe acute malnutrition. The crisis has particularly affected women and children, who are the most vulnerable and in charge of the food and water supply for their families.
ACTED, which has been operating in Somalia since 2009, is one of the leading actors responding to this humanitarian crisis, particularly in rural areas in South Central Somalia and Puntland, by working with more than 180,000 people. Thanks to the support of its partners, and particularly that of the Fonds SUEZ initiatives, ACTED has responded to the urgent needs of the most vulnerable populations by means of water trucking and cash transfers. Today, ACTED is rehabilitating numerous water sources, allowing populations and livestock that have been affected by the drought to regain long-term access to clean water.
