SUEZ partners with Avineon Tensing to provide local authorities with a reliable and fast solution for georeferencing water networks

  • On the occasion of the 105th Congress of the Scientific and Technical Association for Water and the Environment (ASTEE), SUEZ and Avineon Tensing, a specialist in spatial data management, announce their partnership to offer local authorities an aerial georeferencing solution for their water and wastewater networks.
  • Since January 1, 2026, water and wastewater service operators are required to provide maps of their networks with centimeter-level accuracy (Class A) across the country.
  • The solution proposed by SUEZ and Avineon Tensing enables underground networks to be located accurately, reliably and quickly, at a competitive cost. This collaboration marks a new step in the sector’s digital transformation, with a first contract signed in the Épinal Agglomeration Community, paving the way for a nationwide deploymen

An innovative solution for georeferencing water and wastewater networks

SUEZ relies on Avineon Tensing’s 3D aerial image analysis technology to offer local authorities an efficient and reliable solution for identifying and geolocating water and wastewater networks, in order to comply with anti-damage regulations that came into force on 1 January 2026.

This solution combines photogrammetry, artificial intelligence and spatial data processing with SUEZ’s expertise in data intake, verification and reconciliation with existing mapping systems, in particular Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Significant gains in cost, time and performance

The solution developed by SUEZ and Avineon Tensing meets the regulatory challenges facing local authorities while ensuring efficiency, cost control and safety of network operations:

  • Significant time savings: a solution that is up to four times faster, particularly for extensive networks generating large volumes of data to process.
  • Improved identification and location of networks, especially those located on private property, with over 90% of above-ground features detected.
  • A substantial reduction in georeferencing costs compared with standard solutions.

This digital solution is complemented by on-site inspections and the involvement of certified surveyors, to ensure regulatory compliance and data reliability

A strategic partnership set for nationwide rollout

Launched in 2023 with initial pilot projects in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the collaboration between SUEZ and Avineon Tensing has expanded across several territories, including the Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France regions.
The signing of this unprecedented reflects a broader strategy to deploy the solution nationwide, with the launch of an initial contract with the Épinal Agglomeration Community covering the georeferencing of more than 800 km of drinking water and wastewater networks.

Eszter Fantoly, Business Director of Avineon Tensing France, added: “This partnership with SUEZ demonstrates our ability to leverage geospatial intelligence to address both regulatory and operational challenges faced by our clients. By combining our industry knowledge and expertise in GIS technologies and AI with SUEZ’s field experience, we offer a precise and rapidly deployable solution that improves the reliability of network data and accelerates digital transformation.

SUEZ, a global leader in water and waste management

  • In France, SUEZ manages 92,000 km of drinking water networks and 75,000 km of wastewater networks.

In 2025, SUEZ in France:

  • provided wastewater services to 2.8 million customers, representing 9.5 million people
  • produced 750 million m³ of drinking water
  • treated 1.1 billion m³ of wastewater
