UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2018: Jean-Louis Chaussade, CEO of SUEZ recognized for his commitment towards climate
On this occasion, the Group was also recognized as “LEAD” by the UN Global Compact and identified as being among the strongly engaged participants to the worldwide implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UN Global Compact calls on companies to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals. In France, over 1 200 companies and more than 100 non-business organizations have joined the initiative. The Global Compact Network France has supported their efforts to advance sustainable business practices since 2004.
This year, dix finalists have been selected among hundreds of nominations received from all over the world exemplifying how businesses can be a force for good in addressing the challenges we face as a global society. An SDG Pioneers Selection Group, including representatives from the UN Global Compact Board Members, Expert Networks, Global Compact Network Council, Academia, UN Focal Points and previous SDG Pioneers, voted on the nominees based on a set of criteria. These criteria cover the individual’s commitment to embed the Ten Principles and raise awareness on the SDGs, as well as their engagement with the UN Global Compact and its Local Networks.
"These ten outstanding individuals are demonstrating how business can unlock economic, social and environmental gains for the world by advancing the Sustainable Development Goals," said Lise Kingo, CEO & Executive Director of the UN Global Compact. "Showcasing the pioneering actions and progress of these leaders will help mobilize others in this exciting movement to create the world we all want."
The targets in the company’s 2017-2021 Sustainable Development Roadmap mesh with two Sustainable Development Goals on Clean Water and Sanitation, and Responsible Production and Consumption. The targets also help embed the UN Global Compact Ten Principles into the company’s long-term business strategy.
