SUEZ named Water company of the year at the 2024 Global Water Summit

On Tuesday April 16th, SUEZ was awarded “Water company of the year” by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), a leading publisher and think-tank serving the international water industry, at the 2024 Global Water Summit held in London. This award recognises SUEZ’s key achievements in 2023: the roll out of its ambitious sustainable development roadmap, its commercial performance, the success of Green Bond issuances, and the launch of major projects – notably in the field of desalination.

In awarding SUEZ, Global Water Intelligence recognised the company as a "proactive champion of the circular economy" that pushed “the boundaries in finance, desalination, sustainability, and project delivery” in 2023.

SUEZ began 2023 with new ambition in terms of sustainable development. The Group launched its Sustainable Development Roadmap 2023-2027 setting out 24 measurable operational commitments to drive forward SUEZ’s contributions to climate, nature preservation and social responsibility over the coming years. These commitments have been recognised by two of the world's leading organisations in evaluating corporate extra-financial performance: EcoVadis and CDP. The first tangible results are already being seen, with SUEZ achieving electricity self-sufficiency in Europe in 2023.

In line with this roadmap, the success of SUEZ's 2023 green bond issuances underscores not only the strong investor confidence in the Group but also SUEZ's commitment to integrating sustainability into its financing strategy. Over the past two years, the Group has placed €5.5 billion of green bonds debt.

2023 was also a notable year for commercial growth, with SUEZ signing major contracts and innovative partnerships around the globe in countries such as France, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, China. The main contracts won by SUEZ last year represent a turnover of €5 billion. Global Water Intelligence highlighted SUEZ’s desalination project in China, the group's largest in the industrial sector worldwide. This desalination plant will save more than 36 million m3 of fresh water per year.

The 2024 Global Water Summit highlighted the urgent need for water management solutions that address climate change impacts. This award acknowledges SUEZ's ability to meet this challenge thanks to its agile approach and continuous focus on innovation.
