In Jaffna, Sri Lanka, we are improving access to drinking water

We support local communities in structural water management to reduce pressure on available resources and, where necessary, mobilise alternative resources.
This could, for example, involve reusing wastewater or desalinating seawater in coastal areas suffering from water stress. In 2024 in Sri Lanka, we completed and commissioned a major seawater desalination plant to supply drinking water to 300,000 people in the city of Jaffna and the surrounding urban and rural areas. With a production capacity of 24,000 m3/day, expandable to 48,000 m3/day, this infrastructure will meet the needs of the growing population of Jaffna, one of the country's most populous cities.
