Circular economy

Building waste : SUEZ and the CAPEB sign a partnership in favour of a more circular economy

Patrick Liébus, President of the French Confederation of Construction Tradesmen and Contractors (CAPEB), and Philippe Maillard, SUEZ France Senior Executive VP, today signed a partnership to raise levels of knowledge and awareness amongst construction contractors, aiming at improving the sorting and recovery of waste from building materials.

The partnership also forecasts the co-development of solutions that will enable construction professionals to meet the target set by France’s Energy Transition Law to recover 70% of building waste by 2020. A number of actions have been identified to reach these targets.

  • SUEZ will provide advice and support intended to raise the levels of knowledge amongst building contractors. SUEZ will also help to design training courses and materials in best environmental and recycling practices for building contractors.
  • SUEZ will work with the CAPEB in its exchanges with the French National Unions of Building Tradesmen (UNA) to jointly build innovative offers and solutions adapted to the different trades of independent construction companies and the types of waste they produce. Eight working groups will be set up, matching the CAPEB’s eight National Tradesmen’s Unions: electrical and home automation equipment, painting, glazing and coverings, building structures, doors, windows and fittings, roofing, plumbing and heating, bricklaying and tiling, plaster and insulation techniques, metalwork, stonemasonry.
  • The CAPEB will encourage meetings between their local trade unions and SUEZ’s representatives in the territories to multiply exchanges and create local synergies.
  • SUEZ will propose preferential conditions for CAPEB members for its offers, in particular on its Valoservices e-commerce site, including online bookings of containers (7 to 15 m3 skips, 1m3 big bags, etc.) for all types of building waste, plus a collection service and the treatment of the waste by certified channels.

In a sector of activity where the environmental stakes are particularly high, this collaboration will allow for the innovation needed to further develop the circular economy.
