Construction industry: SUEZ launches batiRIM®, the first digital solution for the selective deconstruction of buildings
SUEZ chose the MIPIM exhibition to unveil an innovative solution to public and private development project professionals for the selective deconstruction of buildings in order to maximise reuse and recycling rates. The batiRIMĀ® forward-planning and advisory solution relies on the unique RIMĀ® (Resource Information Modelling) digital modelling tool, bringing the circular economy to the heart of deconstruction sites.
Developed in partnership with Resolving1, batiRIMĀ® adopts an unprecedented approach to the deconstruction of buildings. This solution quantifies, qualifies and maps the flows of products and materials from buildings being renovated, redeveloped or deconstructed and assesses their potential for reuse and recycling, before the works even start.Ā Ā
The drawings of the buildings are integrated in a 2D or 3D digital interface and used on a touch-sensitive tablet. The audited information is returned and securely stored in an interactive database that can be shared with all the stakeholders in the project.Ā Ā
Thanks to this forward-looking approach and digital modelling techniques, the materials identified on deconstruction or renovation sites (e.g., windows, door handles, carpets, etc.) are sent to reuse contractors and, in future, can be used in new building programmes as part of a short loop in the circular economy. Pilot schemes currently underway with public and private contractors have shown that the use of this solution enables selective deconstruction projects to meet their cost targets and deadlines, which are two major levers for professionals in the construction industry.Ā
Local jobs and development of the social solidarity
This solution also improves safety on deconstruction and renovation sites, thanks to the precise mapping carried out in advance of the works and the identification of all the flows. It creates local jobs and boosts the development of the social solidarity, in particular through the reuse of products.Ā
With batiRIMĀ®, SUEZ helps professionals in the construction industry to improve their environmental performance, in order to anticipate, or even exceed, the new regulatory requirements of the French Energy Transition Law, namely the compulsory recovery of 70% of building site waste through recycling, recovery and reuse by 2020.
1Resolving is an SME with more than 10 years of experience in construction, industry and the design of digital tools and services for business players at every stage of a project. Resolving has developed an interactive platform to successfully control every stage of the building, from design, to building site management and maintenance. Resolving developed, exclusively for SUEZ, the digital RIMĀ® tool, which adapts this collaborative platform to deconstruction/renovation and resource-related activities.
