World Toilet Day : The Fondation SUEZ is mobilized

The purpose of the International Days proclaimed by the United Nations is to draw attention of the general public to topics related to fundamental rights, sustainable development or even health. World Toilet Day is held every November 19th. The theme of the 2019 edition is "Do not leave anyone behind". Why are we mobilized? The numbers speak for themselves.

Do you know that, as of today 4.2 billion people (60% of the world's population) do not have toilets at home or do not have a hygienic management of their excrements. 673 Million of people around the world practice open defecation and lack sanitary facilities.

1/3 of the world's schools do not have toilets - a problem that gets worse for girls during the period of menstruation. In fact, sometimes menstruation leads to a drop-out of school. Not only access to toilets is a health issue, it is also a question of equality. At school, in the community, in refugee camps, access to toilets safely at night is not always insured.

Since its creation in 2011, the SUEZ Foundation supported NGOs projects that contributed to the establishment of more than 30,000 latrines in Burkina Faso, Chad, Senegal, Togo in the Philippines, Bangladesh, Madagascar... in villages, informal settlements and refugee camps.
