Together for Sustainable Development: Our People, Our Purpose

SUEZ in India organised a series of sustainability initiatives, including a Biodiversity Walk and the Week of Sustainability, involving employees, students, and communities in activities like nature education, tree planting, and a cycle rally. These efforts aimed to promote environmental conservation, revitalise green spaces like a community park, and raise awareness about eco-friendly practices and clean water initiatives.

Our environment is in a vulnerable state. Protecting it is a shared responsibility, and we must act upon it now! As an environmental services company, SUEZ places sustainability at the heart of everything we do, from managing water resources to transforming waste. The focus has always been to preserve what’s essential and drive forth ecological transition.
Conscious efforts have been undertaken across various SUEZ sites in India in collaboration with stakeholders - clients and communities - to push for credible sustainable development efforts across themes like Nature, Climate and Social. Continuing this legacy, SUEZ in India proudly celebrated the International Day for Biodiversity and the Week of Sustainability - a time when our colleagues came together with purpose, passion, and a collective commitment to first educate themselves and then to act towards environmental conservation.

Biodiversity Walk

We kicked off the celebrations on May 22 with a Biodiversity Walk that led our in-house volunteers, school students and community members on a guided tour through local green zones across different SUEZ locations in India. In Gurgaon, the walk was facilitated by a nature expert with support from SUEZ Foundation India partner NGO, and sparked reflection as participants learned about indigenous flora and fauna and the role of green spaces in urban environments. For many, it was a moment of reconnection - with nature and with a shared responsibility to protect it. The initiative was widely shared across local media to create more awareness about the cause and SUEZ’s long term nature commitments in India and across the world.

Week of Sustainability

Every June, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental action through the Week of Sustainability celebrations, aligning with three global observances: World Bicycle Day, World Environment Day, and World Oceans Day.

This year’s celebrations were marked by a special milestone - the inauguration of Smriti Vatika, a community park revitalised under our SUEZ Foundation India program. What was once an underutilised space is now a thriving green haven, thanks to the collective efforts of local volunteers, our partner organisations and SUEZ employees. The event was honoured by the presence of the Gurgaon Municipal Joint Commissioner and SUEZ in India CEO, Rasmi Ranjan Ray. Highlights included a tree plantation drive, a thought-provoking sustainability panel with industry experts, and a photo exhibition showcasing the park’s transformation.

To promote eco-friendly transportation which helps in reducing Scope 3 emissions, we also organised a Cycle Rally in recognition of World Bicycle Day. Ensuring our water bodies stay clean in sync with World Ocean’s Day, we announced the Clean Yamuna Drive, scheduled for July.

These initiatives were more than symbolic - they were a demonstration of what we can achieve together. The energy, ideas and commitment shown by every participant reinforced our belief that change begins with us.
