Reducing health and environmental risks

Every year, SUEZ invests in research and innovation projects to improve the quality of water supplies and works hand in hand with the French and international regulatory authorities. Our company develops new technologies to eliminate emerging pollutants in its dedicated research laboratory.

Fighting the new pollutants in water

Changing consumer habits have resulted in the appearance of new pollutants. These micro-pollutants, even on an even on a scale of traces are becoming one of the main issues facing local authorities and industry in the protection their respective ecosystems. As a pioneer in this field, we’ve been running research and development studies in its Paris-based expertise and research center, the CIRSEE (international center of research into water and the environment).

Collaboration with leading international experts

To meet the new challenges posed by these micropollutants, SUEZ is working with the best French and international teams on the biological effects of exposure to micropollutants. In particular, with the help of university teams, SUEZ is evaluating the effectiveness and health benefits for consumers of its health risk prevention plans.

We encourage external research projects

The water and health seminar Laboratory-SUEZ

“The Water and Health seminar co-organized by SUEZ is a forum for the discussion of questions related to water and the possible solutions. The seminar is attended by students and academic and industrial researchers of international renown.”

Dr Jean-François LoretHead of Health and environment Department at SUEZ

We sponsor an annual seminar for Ph.D. students

Every year, SUEZ, the University of Lorraine (France) and Bonn University (Germany) co-organize an international Water and Health seminar for Ph.D. students. The event provides a forum for students from all over the world to discuss the results of their research (pollutants of hydric origin, epidemiology, microbiology, the sociological aspects of crisis management, etc.) with leading international scientists.

We provide a forum for discussion

The seminar provides a forum where students can share their experiences and projects with other young people, dialogue is encouraged between different generations of scientists and the disciplines related to this issue.

The 2020 SUEZ Water and Health Award

The seminar’s Scientific Committee awards a prize of €1,500 to the student who makes the best contribution to improving water safety. Participants are given the opportunity to publish their work in a special edition of the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health.

Students have until 26 April to apply for the SUEZ “Water & Health” prize.

The 11th international “Water & Health” seminar took place from 24 to 26 June 2019 in Cannes, France. The award was granted to Tanguy Pouzol who holds a master’s degree in engineering, specialising in civil engineering and urban planning. He also holds a master's in research in environmental engineering and a doctorate in environmental sciences, obtained at INSA Lyon for his project "Monitoring and modelling of pharmaceuticals in wastewater"

In 2018, the award was granted to Esther Sib from the University of Bonn for her work: “Antibiotic-resistant bacteria and resistance genes in biofilms in clinical wastewater networks”.
