Nextalim raises capital from SUEZ and other partners to become a leader in the production of proteins from insects

The start-up NextAlim is raising funds from SUEZ Ventures, Dynalim, nutri.CIAB and other industry stakeholders in order to finance the construction of its first industrial unit in Poitiers.

Since 2014, NextAlim has been developing expertise in the use of insects to turn food waste into proteins for the animal food and green chemistry sectors.
This capital increase allows NextAlim to keep growing while capitalizing on the results of its prototype, developed as part of the CYCLAPROVE project. Since its creation, more than 10 million euro have been invested in this ambitious project which will be industrialized in 2018.

INSECTS: A PATH FORWARD IN MANAGING ORGANIC RESOURCES

Faced with the increasing challenge of sustainably producing and exploiting food resources (proteins in particular), and to combat food waste estimated at more than 88 million tons in Europe, new recovery channels have been developed to work alongside the potential offered by current methanisation and compost solutions.
The controlled and industrial breeding of Black Soldier Fly larvae addresses specific flows thus respecting a strict regulatory framework (non meat-based food products). Therefore, it offers a concrete solution to the challenges of the organic industry and creates new opportunities for the circular economy.

A PARTNERSHIP FOR A NEW RECOVERY INDUSTRY

SUEZ CONTINUING TO ROLL OUT INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS IN THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
1 In 2016, SUEZ sold more than 500,000 tonnes of standardised compost in France used in agriculture and produced 31 GWh of electricity and 19 GWh of thermal energy from organic waste.
