Jordan River Foundation Project – “Fit For Life”

The Fit for Life project has installed a sports and recreation facility in the “Queen Rania Family and Children Center” (QRFCC), which had been created by the Jordan River Foundation in 2005. The project’s purpose is to contribute to the physical and psychological development of adolescents enrolled in the Center’s educational programs.

The Fit for Life program benefits girls and young women 12 to 18 years old and children from 6 to 12 who come from extremely low-income families living in the Jabal Al Nasser neighborhood east of Amman. The Jabal Al Nasser neighborhood is very poor, over-crowded, and suffers from a lack of standard urban health and recreation infrastructure. Family violence and sexual abuse are prevalent.

The project’s sports programs complement the various QRFCC offerings and give adolescents greater self-esteem, facilitating their integrate into the community. Relationships outside the family also open doors to these adolescents to develop healthier non-family relationships.

In 2006 and 2007, SUEZ Foundation financed the construction of the Fit for Life sports and recreation facility.
