Today, SUEZ is European leader in energy services. Thanks in particular to its subsidiary Inéo, the Group enjoys a leading position in lighting buildings, which explains why a skill-based approach to philanthropy was developed to showcase treasures of cultural heritage.
SUEZ has illuminated three monuments that are emblematic of European cultural heritage: in Paris, the Louvre Pyramid; in Rome, the Coliseum; and in Brussels, the Atomium.
In 2004, thanks to SUEZ corporate giving, the Louvre Museum inaugurated the Pyramid’s new lighting system. The system was installed by SUEZ subsidiary Inéo Ile-de-France, with 580 individual light beams directed up from the Pyramid’s base to highlight its architecture. While Electrabel did not set up the Atomium lighting system, through a joint-venture partnership it did supply electricity (green energy) to illuminate it.
