CONTEXT
Since 1998 and the first documentary databases, Elyo’s intranet has been enhanced with a large volume of information. It was becoming necessary to organise this mass of documentation so that it could be used as widely as possible by the 5,500 users spread over nearly 500 sites. Modernisation was also necessary to make it more readable and user-friendly. Finally, online collaboration and the sharing of trade knowledge, tools, methods and feedback were also among the objectives.
INNOVATION
SPOT, Elyo’s new portal, went online on September 30, 2005, after six months of development and a low implementation cost. More readable and better organised, it offers rapid access to information. One of its key strengths is the search engine, which indexes all contents and displays not only relevant information but also comments associated with a document. Another plus: transparent user authentication enables access to all applications with a single password. SPOT is dynamic and highly interactive, listing information and proposing links depending on the user’s profile. It offers multiple tools for online collaboration, such as quick and easy collaborative workspaces.
RESULTS
A 20% increase in usership has been recorded compared with the old version of the intranet. A total of 300,000 pages are consulted every month. SPOT was also awarded the 2006 Intranet Prize by Cegos, Entreprise&Carrières and Les Echos.fr: “With a strong focus on knowledge management, Elyo SUEZ’s intranet portal covers a broad spectrum of applications and innovative functions."
