Management Cockpit: A new decision-support tool

CONTEXT
Electrabel Réseaux Wallonie develops, maintains and operates the Walloon power and natural-gas distribution networks. The company works on behalf of 11 distribution system operators. Given the liberalisation of the energy market, Electrabel Réseaux Wallonie decided to maximize its consolidated system of performance indicators. In 2006, it opted for the Management Cockpit tool.
INNOVATION
Management Cockpit automates, simplifies and improves the reliability of data collection from a wide range of IT applications. It encourages regional and functional managers to be more proactive with a more mature level of management linking three modules: indicator and target management, risk analysis and action plan follow-up. This flexible, lowcost tool meets the IT and quality standards of standards of Electrabel.
Moreover, to incorporate the concept of sustainable development, the degree of consistency between rocess objectives and their indicators has been subject to a rethink, taking account of economic, social and environmental criteria.
RESULTS
The Management Cockpit application, in operation since September 2006, has enabled major gains in efficiency. This tool allows managers to better pinpoint problem situations and optimally monitor corrective and preventive actions. Management Cockpit could become a multi-sector communication tool for the distribution of consolidated data among the Group's subsidiaries.
