Born on September 2, 1943, in Avignon (Vaucluse), is a French citizen.
Edmond Alphandéry is a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (IEP) and a qualified lecturer (agrégé) in economics. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Paris II as well as mayor of Longué-Jumelles and departmental councilor of Maine and Loire. He was the French Minister of the Economy from March 1993 to May 1995. He chaired the Supervisory Board of CNP from 1988 to 1993 and was Chairman of Electricité de France from 1995 to 1998. Since July 1998, he has once again served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CNP Assurances. In addition, he has been a Director of Calyon since 2002. He has also been Chairman of the Centre National des Professions Financières since June 2003.
