SUEZ and UNESCO signed a framework agreement in 2002. The first partnership project under the agreement was a multi-disciplinary program on the Volga. In October 2002, Gérard Mestrallet signed a cooperation agreement for water education with the Secretary General of UNESCO. SUEZ is contributing to the courses run by UNESCO and IHE (the Institute for Water Education, Delft, Netherlands) which have trained more than 12 000 water professionals from around the world, awarding Masters degrees and Doctorates.
For the third consecutive year, Suez Environnement is involved in the Masters in Water Management program. These masters are organised for young professionals from developing countries who already have some experience in public or private enterprises, ministries, banks, consultancies or NGOs.
The contribution of SUEZ relates to:
providing lecturers on subjects as diverse as ‘how to reduce non-revenue water' to ‘ethics';
introducing a new three-week training module on public-private partnerships;
providing methodological and financial support (grants) as well as internships at SUEZ subsidiaries for practical work by students preparing their final theses
