Renewable energy: A common-sense approach
Combating climate change as well as other issues such as security of energy supply and fossil fuel savings have made the development of renewable energy an important element of SUEZ policy. The Group engaged very early in the expansion of renewable energy, in terms of both production and use, and now has a wide range of renewables throughout the world, producing both electricity and heat: hydropower, wind generators, biogas, energy from waste, solar and geothermal sources.
Based on a rational use of resources, SUEZ activities often lead to alternative solutions to the use of fossil fuels. In the areas of water and waste management, these responses take the form of novel and profitable projects that are in harmony with their surrounding environment. SUEZ uses all of its engineering and operating skills, including project planning and supervision, to offer clients the most appropriate and effective solutions . The Group is supported in this by a strong policy on innovation, based on the view that renewable energy has a fundamental need for technological progress and industrial development if its share in the world's energy balance is to increase.
